silence

wikipedia defines silence in this manner

Silence is the relative or total lack of audible sound. By analogy, the word silence may also refer to any absence of communication, even in media other than speech.

to me the latter definition of silence is bad, unhealthy and annoying.  I am a verbal person.  I must, however, remember that silence to many is a good thing.  in thinking of silence this evening i did an internet search on silence quotes.  most of them are positive and look at silence as a good thing.  I need to heed these words.

Speech is silvern, silence is golden.
Thomas Carlyle

From his silence a man’s consent is inferred.
Decimus Laberius

It is but a small merit to observe silence, but it is a grave fault to speak of matters on which we should be silent.
Ovid Publius Ovidius Naso

No wisdom like silence.
– Chinese Proverb

Silence is golden, speech is silver.
– American Proverb

what’s in a name

Today I saw this names post on OHdeedoh. James and I lamented over what to name our son. Neither of us liked the other’s names. When we finially came to THE ONE NAME we both agreed on. Elliot. We thought it was a little modern, a little oldfashioned, not too common and not too unusual.   I was very pleased to see that nameberry.com agrees.

ELLIOT

Resolutions 2010

So I was just reading my dear friend, Lynne’s Blog and it has inspired me.  Ever since I met the woman she has opened my eyes to may things.  One of these things is lists.  She has a list for everything if something new comes up that she wants to do her response is, “that needs to go on the list.”  I wasn’t much of a list maker before meeting Lynne and not the only physical lists I make are Grocery lists and sometimes To Do lists, I do however now make mental lists.

Perhaps it is time I write more of these lists down… I will start with a few resolutions.  Yet another thing the lovely Lynne has taught me.

1) run an entire 5k and keep on running

2) swim for exercise

3)find myself

4) do more things for myself

5) learn to play the cello

6)learn more of James’ languages and cultural traditions

Hmm I can’t think of anything else at this time. I promise to update to let you know what I am doing to accomplish my goals.
